Crochet A Trunk-Full O' Fun!
Tulip Beanie
Notes: The cuff is worked first, then the decorative stitches are worked into the foundation chain opposite the ribbed stitches. Decreases for shaping the crown are worked in the sc rounds. Chain-2 stitches at the beginning of each round on the crown count as a stitch.
Materials: Medium Worsted weight yarn about 3 oz of white (MC), a few yards of green for the leaves(LC), and a few yards of a bright yarn for the flowers (FC) (sample was made with a multicolor yarn). A size I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook.
Gauge: 15 dc = 4inches
Size: Adult medium. You can use a lighter weight yarn and a smaller hook for a smaller hat.
Special Stitches:
Front Post Double crochet (FPDC): Yo and insert hook from the front to the back around the post of the dc on the previous row. (Yo draw through 2) twice.
Back Post Double crochet (BPDC): Yo and insert hook from the back to the front around the post of the dc on the previous row. (Yo draw through 2) twice.
V stitch (V): (Dc, ch 1, dc) in one stitch.
Three- double crochet cluster (3-dc cl): (Yo insert hook in ch-1 space, draw up a loop. YO and draw through 2) three times in same ch-1 space. Yo and draw through all 4 loops.
Single crochet decrease (sc dec): (Insert hook in the next stitch, draw up a loop.) twice. Yo and draw through all 3 loops on the hook.
Three double crochet decrease (3- dc dec): (Yo, insert hook in next stitch, draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2) 3 times, yo and draw through all 4 loops.
Brim (post-stitch ribbing): (MC) Chain 76, being careful not to twist the chain, slip stitch in first chain to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 2, Dc in each chain around, sl st in first dc. (76 dc)
Round 2: Ch 2, *FPDC around next dc, BPDC around next dc. Repeat from * around. (Your last stitch should be a FPDC.) Sl st in first FPDC. (Beginning chain counts as a BPDC.)
Rounds 3-6: Ch 2, *FPDC around next FPDC, BPDC around next BPDC. Repeat from * around. (Your last stitch should be a FPDC.) Sl st in top of ch-2. Sl st in first FPDC. (Beginning chain counts as a BPDC.) break off yarn. Turn piece over with foundation chain on top.
Round 7: (Work into foundation chain): Join MC into any chain stitch. Ch 1, sk first ch, sc in each ch around. Join with a sl st in first sc. (75 sc) break off MC.
Flower rows:
Leaf round: With LC, Starting with a slip knot on the hook, join with a dc in any sc. Ch 1, dc in same sc. *Skip 2 sc, V in next sc. Repeat from * around. Sl st in first dc. Break off LC. (25 V stitches.)
Petal round: With FC, Starting with a slip knot on the hook, join with a 3-dc cl in any ch-1 space of a V. *Ch
2, 3-dc cl in next V. Repeat from * around. Ch 2, sl st in first cluster. Break off FC.
Crown:
Round 1: With MC, Starting with a slip knot on the hook, join with a sc in any cluster st. *2 sc in next ch space, sc in next cluster. Repeat from * around. 2 sc in last ch-2 space. Sl st in first sc. (75 sc)
Round 2: Ch 2, (counts as a dc) dc in each sc around. Sl st in top of ch-2. (75 dc)
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in each dc around. Sl st in first sc. (75 sc)
Round 4: Ch 2, dc in each sc around. Sl st in top of ch-2. (75 dc)
Round 5: Ch 1, *sc in next 3 dc, sc dec. Repeat from * around. Sl st in first sc. (60 sc)
Round 6: Ch 2, dc in each sc around. Sl st in top of ch-2. (60 dc)
Round 7: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 dc, sc dec. Repeat from * around. Sl st in first sc. (45 sc)
Round 8: Ch 2, dc in each sc around. Sl st in top of ch-2. (45 dc)
Round 9: Ch 1, *sc in next dc, sc dec. Repeat from * around. Sl st in first sc. (30 sc)
Round 10: Ch 2, dc in each sc around. Sl st in top of ch-2. (30 dc)
Round 11: Ch 1, *sc dec. Repeat from * around. Sl st in first sc. (15 sc)
Round 12: Ch 2 (This time, do not count as a dc), 3-dc dec in each sc around. Sl st in first dc. (5 dc)
Break off yarn leaving a tail for closing hole. Weave tail through top of each stitch. Pull closed. Secure and hide tails.
