Materials:

Bulky rug yarn, tarn or plarn, or double stranded worsted weight yarn. (yardage & weight depends on which yarn you use) Size G (4mm) crochet hook. Yarn needle.

Gauge 14 sc = 4 inches. 17 rows = 4 inches.

Finished size: 9 inch cube

Basket panels: (Make 5)

Chain 31.

Row 1: sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each ch across.

Rows 2 – 35: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

At the end or row 35 do not turn.

Border:

Ch 2, hdc in side of 1st sc, hdc in ends of next 2 rows, *(skip 1 row, hdc in ends of next 6 rows) 4 times. Sk next row, hdc in ends of next 3 rows. * Working in foundation chain, 2 hdc in first ch, hdc in each ch across, 2 hdc in last ch. Hdc in ends of next 3 rows, Repeat from * to *. Make 2 more hdc in the first sc of the last row, hdc in each sc across. (31 hdc on each side, 124 hdc around)

Finishing square:

Cut yarn with a 4-inch tail. Using a yarn needle, bring the yarn through the top of the first hdc, then down through the top of the last hdc forming a loop above the ch-2 to resemble the top of a stitch. Weave the remainder of the tail under the stitches.

Assembly:

Line up each square stitch to stitch, beginning with a corner hdc, with wrong sides together, sc in the back loop of each hdc across on each side. Work in the same manner all around the bottom square. Finish off and weave in tails. (Assembly can be done with one strand of worsted weight.)

Optional: sc or rsc around the top.
