sizes: child-adult

Materials:

• Main Color (MC): Number 5 bulky yarn. Model was made with 1 ball Moda Dea Aerie (1.76 oz /50 g & 71 yds/65 m)
• Contrastng Color (CC): Number 6 super bulky yarn. Model was made with 1 ball Lion Boucle (2.& 57 yds/52m)
• for the adult hat- Size L (8mm) crochet hook; for the childs hat size J-10(6mm) crochet hook.
• 1 stitch marker, 1 stitch holder(optional)& yarn needle.

Gauge: With MC, & L hook, 3 dc = 1 inch, 2 rounds = 2 inches;

             With MC & J hook, 4 dc =1 inch, 2 rounds = 1 ½ inches.

Notes:

• Work over tails for round 1; leave them long enough to draw center hole closed.
• • Each round is worked changing colors half way around to form the spiral.
• • Use a safety pin or stitch holder, or draw up the loop when dropping colors.
• • Do not break off colors until Round 7 where instructed.
• • The rounds are worked continuously, not slipped stitched.
• • When pattern says work to stitch marker, also work into marked stitch.
• • Move stitch marker to mark end of each round.

Special sts: sc 2 tog: draw up a loop in each of the next 2 sts, yo & draw through all 3 lps on the hook.

Directions: With MC ch 6. sl st to form ring.

Round 1: (2 sc, 2 hdc, 3 dc) in ring. Drop MC. Join CC in ring after last dc. Ch 1, (2 sc, 2 hdc, 3 dc) in ring. Place a stitch marker in last dc.

Round 2: Continuing with CC, 2 dc in each st of MC. Drop CC. Pick up MC. 2 dc in each st of CC to stitch marker.

Round 3: Continuing with MC, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) in each CC stitch around. Drop MC, Pick up CC. (Dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) in each MC stitch around to stitch marker.

Round 4: Continuing with CC, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) in each MC stitch around. Drop CC, Pick up MC. (Dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) in each CC stitch around to stitch marker.

Round 5: Continuing with MC, (dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) in each CC stitch around. Drop MC, Pick up CC. (Dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) in each MC stitch around to stitch marker.

Round 6: Continuing with CC, Dc in each MC dc around, drop CC, Pick up MC. DC in each CC dc to stitch marker.

Round 7: Continuing with MC, Dc in each CC dc around. Drop MC. Pick up CC. Dc in next 8 MC dc, hdc in next 5 dc, sc in next 8 dc. Break off CC. (This will not end at the end of the round.) Pick up MC.

Round 8: Hdc in each st around (including all CC & MC sts) to marker.

Round 9: (Sc in next 3 sts, sc 2 tog) around to marker.

Round 10: (Sc in next 2 sts, sc 2 tog)around to marker.

Rounds 11-16: sc in each st around to marker.

Sl st in next 3 sc. Break off yarn and draw in tail. Draw center hole closed and secure.

Draw in tail.
