Gauge: Each square is about 5 inches across.

Materials: Scraps of medium worsted weight and an I/9 (5.50) mm crochet hook.


The lengths will need to be at least:


Please note, these lengths are estimates and it is best to have a little more yarn than what a pattern calls for.


1 yard long for the first round.


2 yards for round 2.


2 ½ yards for round 3.


3 ½ yards for round 4.


6 ½ yards each for rounds 5 & 6.



Note: Hide tails after each round.


Make 60 squares for a 36 in square lap blanket (it will be bigger with a border)


Make 80 squares for a 48 x 66 inch afghan.



Round 1: Create magic loop, ch 1, make 12 sc in magic loop. Join to first sc. Draw center hole closed.



Round 2: Join yarn in any sc, chain 1, hdc in same sc, 2 hdc in next sc, * hdc in next sc, 2 hdc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join to first hdc. (18 hdc)



Round 3: Join yarn in any hdc, chain 1, hdc in same hdc, hdc in next hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 2 hdc, repeat from * around to last hdc, 2 hdc in last hdc. Join. (24 hdc)



Round 4: Join yarn in any hdc, chain 2, dc in same st, *ch 2, 2 dc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc, sc in next 2 hdc, hdc in next hdc, **2 dc in next hdc, repeat from * 2 times, the repeat from * to ** once. Join to top of beginning ch-2.



Round 5: Join yarn in any dc before ch- 2 space, chain 2, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 space, dc in each st to next ch- 2 space, repeat from * 2 times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 space, dc in each remaining st across. Join. (12 dc on each side.)



Round 6: Join yarn in any dc before ch- 2 space, chain 2, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 space, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in next 3 dc, ch 1, skip 2 dc, dc in next 3 dc, ch1, skip 1 dc,** dc in next dc, repeat from * 2 times, repeat from * to **, join. ( 4 groups of 3 dc on each side.)



Assemble squares making 8 rows of 11 squares. I suggest using the continuous join, however you can join them whichever way you like! How-to video play list for joining can be found here:
