Size: 6-inches (15.3 cm) square



Materials: Small amounts of Sport or DK weight yarn in White & Red. (Lion Brand baby Soft was used in this sample.) a size G/ 4.5 mm crochet hook.



Special Stitches & abbreviations:


Right side (RS)/ Wrong side (WS)


Long Chain (LCh): Make a chain the length of a dc stitch.


Puff stitch (PS): (YO draw up a long loop...the height of a dc) 4 times in same space, ch 1.


Long Double Crochet (LDC): Dc in the dc in the row below and around the chain drawing up the first loop even with the working row.



Instructions: Beginning with white, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form a ring.



Round 1: (RS) Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 2, *3 dc in ring, ch 2. Repeat from * 2 more times. Sl st in top of ch-3. Turn. Do NOT cut yarn. Draw up a long loop or use a stitch holder to keep the loop “live.”



Round 2: (WS) Join red in any ch- 2 sp. LCh.* (PS, ch2, PS) in same ch-2 sp, ch 3. repeat from * 3 more times. End off red. Turn.



Round 3: (RS) Pull “live” white loop through to the right side under the red ch sp. LCh around the red chain, ch 2. (counts as LDC) LDC in next 2 white dc in the row below. Ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the ch-2 sp between PS's. Ch 1, LDC in next 3 white dc in the row below. Repeat from * around. End with a sc in the top of beg ch-3. Do not turn.



Round 4: (RS) Ch 2, 2 dc around joining sc. * Ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, Repeat from * around. Ch1, sl st in top of beg ch. Pull up a loop, do not cut yarn. Turn.



Round 5: (WS) Join Red in any corner ch-2 sp. Lch * (PS, ch 2, PS) in corner ch-2 sp, (ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp) 3 times. Ch 3, repeat from * around. Sl st in top of first PS. End off red, turn.



Round 6: (RS) Pull “live” white loop through to the right side under the red ch sp. LCh around the red chain, ch 2. (counts as LDC) LDC in next 2 white dc in the row below. {Ch 1, LDC in next 3 white dc in the row below.} Twice, * Ch 1, (3 hdc, ch 2, 3 hdc) in ch-2 sp between PS's, ch 1. Repeat {} 4 times. Repeat from * around square. End with a sc in top of beg ch-3. Do NOT turn.



Round 7: (RS) Ch 2, 2 dc around joining sc. (Ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1,) 3 times, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) 5 times, Repeat from * 2 more times, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) 2 times, join in beg ch. Break off yarn and draw in tails.

Materials: Lion Brand Mandala Yarn is a self striping size 3 sport weight yarn. 4 skeins Genie.

Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook. Gauge: rounds 1-2, 3 inches across side to side.

Finished size: 52 inches side to side. (As opposed to corner to corner or point to point.)


Notes:

Pattern may omit skipping chain spaces and certain stitches, when the next stitch you work into is the first of its kind. For example, if you are to sc in the next sc, but there are dc and chain stitches before it, you simply skip those. The skip will be noted in the pattern in places where it otherwise would be confusing.

Optional:

1)Mark the sl st at the end of the round.

2)Mark the end of the 4th repeat on every round. It makes it easier to know when to go to the last part of the round.


Special Stitches:


V - V-stitch : (Dc, ch 2, dc) in one space or stitch.


Beg cl - Beginning cluster : ch 2, yo, insert hook into stitch, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook),

yo draw through 2. (2 loops on hook). yo, insert hook into same stitch, draw up a loop, (4 loops on hook) yo draw through 2. (3 loops on hook) Yo and draw through 3 loops.


Cl - Cluster : Yo, insert hook into stitch, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook),

yo draw through 2. (2 loops on hook). yo, insert hook into same stitch, draw up a loop, (4 loops on hook) yo draw through 2. (3 loops on hook) yo, insert hook into same stitch, draw up a loop, (5 loops on hook).yo draw through 2. (4 loops on hook). Yo and draw through 4 loops.


Fpsc - Front post single crochet: Insert hook on the right side and out the left side of the stitch below, draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2. (Basically you are making a sc around the post in front of the stitch.)


Fptr - Front post treble crochet: Yo twice, insert hook on the right side and out the left side of the stitch below, draw up a loop, (yo and draw through 2.) 3 times (Basically you are making a tr around the post in front of the stitch.)


L&S - Leaf & stem stitch: (Cl, ch 2, dc, ch 2, cl) in same stitch. Cl represents leaves, and dc represents a stem. When working into this stitch instructions will say to work in stem, which is the dc in this stitch.


Pc - Popcorn stitch : Make 5 dc in the same stitch. Remove hook from loop. Insert hook into the first dc, pick up loop and draw it through. Ch 1. (don't forget the ch-1 ending this stitch!)


Bpsc Back post single crochet : Insert hook back to front on the right side and front to back on the left side of the stitch below, draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2. (Basically you are making a sc around the post in back of the stitch.)


Directions:


Part 1; Center:


Beginning at center, ch 6, sl st to first ch to form a ring.


Round 1: Ch 2, (counts as a dc) Dc in ring. (Ch 2, 2 dc in ring) 5 times. Ch 2, sl st in top of beginning ch-2. 12 dc, 6 ch-2 spaces.


Round 2: Ch 2, dc in next dc,

* V (see special stitches) in next ch-2 space. Dc in next 2 dc.

Repeat from * 4 times.

V in next ch-2 space, sl st in top of beg ch-2. 6 ch-2 spaces, six 4-dc groups.
