Cable Crochet Squares


The beautiful texture of cables is not only for knits. The following patterns all are crochet cable patterns.

The 10-inch squares can be assembled for larger projects. Stitch multiples are included so they can be used in larger projects.

The following instructions are the same on all of the 10-inch square patterns.



Materials: approximately 2 ½ oz medium Worsted weight yarn for 1 square, size I/9 (5.5mm) crochet hook.


Gauge: 14 sc and 16 sc rows = 4 inches.

Materials: Lion Brand Mandala Yarn is a self striping size 3 sport weight yarn. 4 skeins Genie.

Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook. Gauge: rounds 1-2, 3 inches across side to side.

Finished size: 52 inches side to side. (As opposed to corner to corner or point to point.)


Notes:

Pattern may omit skipping chain spaces and certain stitches, when the next stitch you work into is the first of its kind. For example, if you are to sc in the next sc, but there are dc and chain stitches before it, you simply skip those. The skip will be noted in the pattern in places where it otherwise would be confusing.

Optional:

1)Mark the sl st at the end of the round.

2)Mark the end of the 4th repeat on every round. It makes it easier to know when to go to the last part of the round.


Special Stitches:


V - V-stitch : (Dc, ch 2, dc) in one space or stitch.


Beg cl - Beginning cluster : ch 2, yo, insert hook into stitch, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook),

Fptr - Front post treble crochet: Yo twice, insert hook on the right side and out the left side of the stitch below, draw up a loop, (yo and draw through 2.) 3 times (Basically you are making a tr around the post in front of the stitch.)


L&S - Leaf & stem stitch: (Cl, ch 2, dc, ch 2, cl) in same stitch. Cl represents leaves, and dc represents a stem. When working into this stitch instructions will say to work in stem, which is the dc in this stitch.


Pc - Popcorn stitch : Make 5 dc in the same stitch. Remove hook from loop. Insert hook into the first dc, pick up loop and draw it through. Ch 1. (don't forget the ch-1 ending this stitch!)


Bpsc Back post single crochet : Insert hook back to front on the right side and front to back on the left side of the stitch below, draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2. (Basically you are making a sc around the post in back of the stitch.)
