Bricks & Lattice Beanie/ Slouch hat

To wear as a beanie, fold up the cuff. For a slouch wear it with the cuff unfolded.

Materials: 1 ball Red Heart Boutique Midnight yarn. #4 Medium weight yarn (sample was in color name shadow)

Gauge: first two rounds make a 3-inch circle.

Notes:

Hat is made in the round without turning.

Beginning chain counts as a dc.

Slip st in top of beginning chain at the end of each round unless otherwise indicated.

Special stitches:

Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc): yo (yarn over) your hook; starting from the front, place hook from front to back to front around the post of st (stitch) in row below; complete as a dc (double crochet).

Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc): yo, starting from the back, place hook from back to front to back (as per arrow in example) around post of st in row below; complete as a dc.

Directions: Chain 6, sl st in first ch to form ring. (or use magic loop)

Round 1: Ch 2, 15 dc in ring. Sl st in beg ch-2. (16 dc)

Round 2: Ch 3, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) 7 times. 2 dc in last dc. Sl st in beg ch-3. (24 dc)

Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same stitch as joining. (Dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in the next dc) 7 times. Dc in last 2 dc. Sl st in beg ch-3. (32 dc)

Round 4: Ch 3, dc in next dc, (2 dc in each of the next 2 dc, dc in next 2 dc) 7 times. 2 dc in each of last 2 dc. Sl st in beg ch-3. (48 dc)

Round 5: (loop round) ch 1, sc in same st as joining. (chain 4, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc) 15 times. Chain 4, skip 2, sl st in ch-1. (16 ch-4 lps)

Round 6: Sl st in sc, sl st in ch-4 lp. Chain 3, 3 dc in same lp. *(ch 2, sc, ch 2) in next ch-4 lp, 4 dc in next ch-4 lp. Repeat from * 6 times. (Ch 2, sc, ch 1) in next ch-4 lp. Sc in top of ch-3. (Sc will count as a ch-1 sp.)

Round 7: (loop round) Ch 1, sc in sp made by sc. (Ch 4, sk 4 dc, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 4, sk next sc, sc in next ch-2 sp, ) 7 times. Ch 4, sk 4 dc, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, sk next sc, dc in first sc. (Dc counts as 2 chians.)

Round 8: Ch 3, dc in sp made by last dc, *(ch 2, sc, ch 2) in next ch-4 lp, 4 dc in next ch-4 lp. Repeat from * 6 times. (ch 2, sc, ch 2) in next ch-4 lp, 2 dc in next ch-2 lp, sl st in top of ch-3.

Round 9: (loop round) Sl st into dc and ch-2 sp. Ch 1, sc in same sp. (Ch 4, sk next sc, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 4, sk 4 dc, sc in next ch-2 sp) 7 times. Ch 4, sk next sc, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 4, sk 4 dc, sl st in first sc.

Rounds 10-13: Repeat round 6-9.

Cuff: (2x2 dc post st ribbing) (Cuff can be folded between rounds 5 & 6 for beanie style)

Round 1: sl st in first ch-4 lp, ch 3, 3 dc in same lp. 4 dc in each ch-4 loop around. Sl st in top of ch-3. (64 dc)

Rounds 2-5: Ch 2, bpdc around next st, fpdc around next 2 sts, (bpdc around next 2 sts, fpdc around next 2 sts) around the hat. Sl st in first st.

Round 6-10: Ch 2, fpdc around next st, bpdc around next 2 sts, (fpdc around next 2 sts, bpdc around next 2 sts) around the hat. Sl st in first st.

End off after round 10 and draw in tails.
